Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, melt sugar until golden in color and completely liquefied.
Pour hot syrup into a 9 inch round glass baking dish, turning the dish to evenly coat the bottom and sides.
In a blender, combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, the guava fruit preserve and pinch of salt.
Blend until smooth.
Pour egg mixture into baking dish.
Put backing dish in a 13x9x2 inch baking tray. Pour enough water into baking tray to come halfway up sides of the baking dish.
Bake in preheated oven 60 minutes.
Remove baking dish from water and let cool completely.
To serve, cut around sides to loosen flan, carefully invert on serving plate.
